Dennis G Mendoros OBE, DL, FRAeS, the Owner & Managing Director of Euravia Engineering & Supply Co Ltd, has been appointed the new High Sheriff for Lancashire, and will continue an office stretching back over one thousand years.
The new High Sheriff of Lancashire was officially sworn-in on Tuesday 20 April 2010, at County Hall in Preston.
The appointment of High Sheriff is made by Her Majesty The Queen, in her right as Duke of Lancaster.
Mr Mendoros said:
“I am grateful and delighted to receive this honour at being appointed the High Sheriff of Lancashire. This is an ancient and secular Office which has existed under the Crown continuously for over one thousand years.
For over twenty years I have actively supported many initiatives and I believe that my High Sheriff’s duties will act as a catalyst for bringing together people of different backgrounds, ages and cultures.
I am committed to continuing the excellent work of my predecessors and looking forward enormously to a constructive, fruitful and successful term in office.” |
During the installation ceremony on 20th April, The Queen’s Commission was read in the presence of two Commissioners. The High Sheriff then made a declaration to “serve The Queen’s Writs and execute the good laws and statutes of the Realm”. The Commissioners confirmed that the declaration had been correctly delivered and the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire then handed over the Sheriff’s Patent, which is his authority to act throughout his year in office. The High Sheriff’s main duty is to “protect and assist in upholding the dignity and well being of Her Majesty’s Judges and to represent The Queen’s executive powers in respect of the administration of justice in the county.” Through the Under Sheriff, the High Sheriff is also responsible for the execution of High Court Writs.
Mr D G Mendoros and his successors were also awarded a family Coat of Arms as illustrated below:
