PT6A-114 Capabilities

The PT6A-114 small turboprop engine that is easy to start and generates low emissions

Used on the Cessna 208 Caravan, this PT6A -114 model is the small variant of the ever reliable Pratt and Whitney Canada turboprop engine. Using the PT6 two shaft layout of a multi-stage compressor, combustion and turbine design to ensure easy maintenance and low running costs. This is a lightweight turboprop engine, similar to PT6A-34 with a single port exhaust and PT6A-41 fuel system concepts and the PT6A­135 reduction gearbox. It uses two counter rotating turbines. One drives the compressor and one to drive the propeller through its gearbox. The second rotating turbine is what gives the engine its " free" name. In engine start the reduction gearbox and propeller section need not be spun. This allows lower RPM on the engine and more control for the pilot.
