PT6A Capability Overview
-
The PT6A-114A is flat-rated to produce 675 shaft horsepower (shp). Compared to its baseline counterpart (the PT6A-114 used in the initial Caravan models), the -114A features improvements that provide higher thermodynamic limits and greater power availability in "hot and high" (high elevation/high temperature) conditions.
Its key design attributes include:
Reverse-flow design: Improves accessibility for on-wing hot section inspections and maintenance.
High durability: Tailored for operations requiring frequent cycles (short flights), remote off-runway landings, and heavy hauling.
Versatile operations: Commonly utilized by cargo carriers, regional passenger airlines, medevac operators, and skydiving outfitters.
Primary Applications:
Cessna 208 and 208B Caravan I: The PT6A-114A serves as the standard powerplant for both the short-body Caravan and the stretched Super Van 9.
Reims-Cessna F406 Caravan II: While less common in North America, this twin-engine French utility and surveillance aircraft is another approved application for the -114A/114 engine family.
-
The Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-11AG is a highly specialized, 550-shaft-horsepower turboprop engine built explicitly for agricultural aviation. Its primary applications include heavy duty crop dusting, aerial seeding where it handles frequent takeoffs, high-cycle operations, and dusty environments.

The Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-21 is a 550 shaft horsepower (SHP) turboprop. It is a de-rated derivative of the PT6A-27, purpose-built to provide robust reliability, excellent "hot and high" altitude performance, and a Time Between Overhaul (TBO) of 3,600 hours.
Its primary airframe applications include:
Beechcraft King Air C90 Series: The most prolific application, powering the C90A, C90B, and C90SE.
Turbine Conversions: Widely used for retrofitting piston aircraft into turbine power, notably the Beechcraft Bonanza (e.g., Royal Turbine Duke and Turbine Air Bonanza).
Utility & Regional: The Evektor EV-55 Outback and selected Cessna 206 conversions.
